About the Artist
James Redding was made to be a painter.

Self-taught from the start, he's spent decades capturing the natural world and the quiet moments that make you feel all is right with the world.
People often say that his paintings bring them a sense of peace. They can almost hear the rustle of grass, a bird singing, the gentle ripple of the water in the scenes James creates. Home is meant to be a place of serenity, and James's work brings that feeling to every space it touches.
With clients from every corner of the country, it brings James great joy when his paintings find their way into homes just yours.
A Family Studio

When James isn't creating, you'll usually find him spending time with Mary. She is an integral part of James Redding Studio and has helped James build his art career from the very beginning. If you reach out with a question about a painting or a commission, there's a good chance you'll hear from Mary. She is an expert on his work and loves to help clients find their perfect piece.

The Work

James works in the realism style from his studio in Franklin, Tennessee. He is known for the intricate detail of his paintings, the kind you could spend hours studying and still find something new to notice. James likes to say that light is his inspiration as well as his challenge. It helps him create depth, dimension, and a touch of drama in his work.
James and his wife Mary love to go out "hunting" for new scenes, seeking inspiration wherever it can be found. When the vision strikes, James can often envision the completed work before he even begins painting. With every brushstroke, he invites you to pause, exhale, and get lost in a beautiful moment.
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…”
-Ecclesiastes 9:10

Originals and Commissions
James's original paintings are available directly from the studio, each one hand-painted and one of a kind. He also takes commissions and genuinely enjoys the challenge of a custom project, including portraits. If you have an idea in mind, reach out.
