Hi, I’m James. Thanks for stopping by to learn more about me and my art! I create fine art from my studio in Franklin, Tennessee. It brings me great joy when my paintings find their way into homes just like yours.

My Studio

Environment is very important to the creation of art, and I love working out of my home studio. It is full of light, and all my favorite things, paints, brushes, books about art, and photographs and sketches of the next subjects on my horizon.

I enjoy inviting my clients in for creative appts. If you would like to discuss your vision and perspective for a special project, please contact me at [email protected].

It’s such a blessing to know that the paintings I create in my home will eventually travel far and wide. We’ve sent paintings to what feels like every corner of the U.S.

My Family

When I’m not in the studio, you’ll usually find me with my beautiful wife and business partner, Mary. She’s an integral part of James Redding Studio and has helped me build my art career from the very beginning. Mary’s skill running the studio allows me to focus on creating my best work, and I’m so thankful for her presence in every area of my life.

We have one daughter, Katie, who we adore. She lives in Nashville, Tennessee and was a big part of our decision to move to nearby Franklin.

My Work

I paint in the realism style and I am known for the intricate detail and light in my paintings. I like to say that light is my inspiration as well as my challenge. It helps me create depth and dimension in my paintings, as well as adding a bit of drama. I’m completely self-taught, so my interpretation of the subject that I paint comes naturally to me. My individual style sets me apart from other artists.

I approach every new project with a combination of vision and preparation. Mary and I love to go out “hunting” for new subjects, and once I decide what to paint next, I can usually envision the completed work before I even start painting.

My New Home

After our daughter Katie moved to Nashville, we felt led to start a brand new adventure down south. Franklin, Tennessee is a quaint historic town, which is right up my alley. Founded in 1799 and named after Ben Franklin, my new hometown contains a vibrant art community with lots of history. I enjoy painting historical scenes as well as nature, and Franklin has both of those in spades.

Mary and I love our new life in Franklin, and we especially love all the time we get to spend with Katie and her husband, Josh.
